Handpan Maker Spotlight: Tacta Handpans

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

Today we'll be taking an inside look at Tacta Handpans of São Paulo, Brazil.

Tacta was founded by Rafael D'Arco, an engineer, talented musician, and dear friend of mine. The company is run by D'Arco and his sister-in-law Adriana Yuki. Their instruments are among my personal favorites, in fact, Rafael built me my own beautiful custom E SaByeD (pictured below) that I wouldn't trade for the world.

I got a chance to catch up with Rafael and learn a bit more about the Tacta story.

Let's dive in.

Company Name:

Tacta Handpans. The name comes from the Latin word for "touched"

Year Founded:

2015

Location:

São Paulo, Brazil

How did you first discover the handpan?

Manu Delago's "Mono Desire" video.

What made you decide to start building handpans?

I REALLY wanted one, and couldn't get it back then. (2009)

What is your goal as a handpan builder?

To push the boundaries on stainless steel.

What would you say your instruments are known for?

Stainless steel that doesn't sound as much like stainless steel.

What's one interesting fact about you, your company, or your instruments?

The transition to stainless steel actually happened out of desperation, after an entire batch of nitrided shells was ruined, two weeks before a handpan gathering.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes

Do you have instruments currently available to purchase?

Yes (You can buy Tacta Handpans in the Planet Handpan Marketplace!)

Do you have a waiting list? If so how long?

Yes. Roughly, 2 - 3 months. (We currently have Tactas that are built and ready to ship in the Planet Handpan Marketplace!)
